Lithuania focuses on H2020 legislation
Lithuania is holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 July to 31 December 2013; it is the first of the three Baltic States to do so. Vilnius took over following the successful Irish Presidency and an agreement on Horizon 2020, the EU’s next research and innovation framework programme.
“The main priority of the Lithuanian Presidency in the field of research will be to lay the groundwork for starting the Horizon 2020 programme in 2014. Now that an agreement in principle on the programme’s legislative package has been reached, several important steps still need to be taken,” says Mr Pavalkis.
“The Presidency will also give priority, as appropriate, to legislative actions on initiatives implementing Horizon 2020. On some of them - the public-public partnerships based on article 185 of the Treaty (on the Functioning of the European Union) in particular - we will try to make as much progress as possible, in close collaboration with the Parliament.”
