July 1st 2013, Vilnius
2013 is an important year for Lithuania - the country is holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first time in history.
The Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU will focus on creating a credible, growing and open Europe. Efforts will be directed at further strengthening grounds for financial stability, continuing work for the establishment of a banking union, and implementing newly agreed rules on economic governance. Further integration of the single market, including energy, focus on the Digital Agenda and the implementation of measures to improve employment opportunities, for youth in particular, will make the European economic and social model more solid. As holder of the Presidency, Lithuania will promote closer integration of the EU and its Eastern Partners, continuation of the enlargement policy, free trade with strategic partners and effective management of external EU borders.
The Presidency is a unique opportunity to showcase everything that Lithuania has to offer: the skills and capabilities of its people, and the beauty and achievements of the country.
More than 200 events will take place over the six months of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU, and the MANUFUTURE 2013 conference is part of the official programme.
